Master Drummers of Africa head for Bridport

SOMETIMES it can seem that every school and village hall in Dorset is putting on drumming workshops. I went to one watch the end of one in Loders village hall earlier this year, and the racket was indescribable in words; it was rather like all the letters of the alphabet had been turned into acrobatic hollow-grams who were jumping up and down, bouncing off the walls and bashing into each other. Fun, but soon exhausting rather than invigorating.

Anyway, I only mention this because on Friday August 13 the Master Drummers of Africa visit Bridport Arts Centre with over 100 ethnic drums to show how it should be done…

Done well, it can be amazing.

Bridport’s show will last for three hours. Tickets are available now from Bridport Arts Centre’s box office on 01308 424204, priced £10, £9 supporters or £7 concessions.
